See You In The Fields – Who’s Calling Me to Kendal Calling
The multi-award winning Kendal Calling has received a phenomenal response this year, to what promises to be one of their best line ups to date; resulting in a complete sellout. From the Stereophonics and Manic Street Preachers to Tinie Tempah and Example; Kendal Calling has booked an act to suit everyone’s taste in music. Given my experience of photographing their fantastic atmosphere last year and add it to this year’s line up; Kendal Calling 2017 is going to be one of this summer’s festivals that I intend not to miss.
Who’s Calling me to Kendal Calling?
Tinie Tempah is an artist I always look forward to capturing. During last year’s festival season I had the pleasure of capturing the mighty force that is Tinie Tempah, at V Festival and Fusion Festival. Both sets of images have received high praise from the man himself. Most notably his comments of how my images of him are “sick”.
Another highlight for me is going to be Example. He is an artist I have wanted to photograph for a while. I have seen him live before and I just loved his high energy, feel good performance and I am very much looking forward to capturing him.
Having been fan of the Manic Street Preachers and Stereophonics for years; it goes without saying that I am looking forward to capturing their performances. It will be interesting to see if there is a contrast in energy between the these established veterans and the newer artists in the line up.
More than just your usual festival.
Kendal Calling provides glorious scenery to a fun and friendly festival environment. Full of beautiful and intriguing art pieces hidden throughout its cleverly laid out arena. Attracting audiences of all ages. The festival goers are definitely not shy about standing out from the scenery with colourful outfits, costumes, accessories and even face paints. Making this festival full of wonderful things for a photographer, such as myself, to capture.
Recalling Last year’s highlights.
Last years line up saw acts such as Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Madness, Craig David, Rudimental, Catfish and the Bottlemen, the Darkness and so many more amazing acts all crammed into one weekend. I was lucky enough to be there to capture them all. My biggest highlight was when Noel Gallagher spotted me in the press pit and performed to my lens.
Kendal Calling is one of the festivals that have provided me with the perfect environment to grow and perfect my live entertainment photography skills. In the early days of my photography career, Kendal Calling taught me to organise myself. To create a brief and stick to it. To ensure I capture images that create a collection of engaging moments and memories. It also taught me to edit to high standards quickly, then send the images out to my client; almost immediately after getting back from the press pit. Thanks to this festival, I realised early on in my photography career that I have definitely found my calling in gig and festival photography.
